Consider/Approve Bid for Transportation Vehicle

Background Information :

We solicited bids from local vendors for the purchase of a Transportation Department service truck (using state bid specifications), which, if approved by the Board, will be budgeted in the General Purpose School Fund for the 2012 – 2013 fiscal year.  The purchase of a service truck is within the replacement schedule as established by the Transportation Department. Since the truck specified is on the State bid contract, advertisement for bid was not necessary and the State bid contract specifications were used as a guideline for our local vendors. We received bids from two (2) local vendors (Herman Jenkins and Terry Petty did not submit a bid), which are summarized on the bid request tally sheet. Individual bids were as follows:

Union City Ford – $21,939.72
Kenton Chevrolet – $24,995.00
State Contract Price – $22,948.00

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the low bid submitted by Union City Ford for $21,939.72. With this approval, it is the intent of the Board and management that no liability will be incurred, nor a purchase order issued, until the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2012.
