Agenda Item: VIII.E.

Consider/Approve Pre-K Playground/Exercise Equipment Bid

Background Information:

In addition to advertising, we solicited bids from Kidz Zone Play Systems, Playtime Playground, Playworld Preferred, and BYO Playground for the purchase of Pre-K playground equipment for South Fulton Elementary School’s Pre-K program. We received bids from Playworld Preferred ($17,933) and Kidz Zone Play Systems ($21,391.53) for this purchase. Bid specifications are attached for your reference.

The purchase of the Pre-K playground equipment was specifically requested during the budget planning process for the current fiscal year and Pre-K funds are available in the FY11 budget as approved by the Board.

Due to submitting a bid for the first time, Mr. Parks and Mr. Graham traveled to Decatur County to inspect a playground installed by Playworld Preferred. Although Playworld Preferred’s equipment appears to meet the minimum standards, the equipment did not appear to be of the same quality as has been installed by Kidz Zone Play Systems at our schools in the past (Lake Road, Hillcrest, Ridgemont, and Black Oak). In addition, Playworld Preferred has failed to provide an ORI# (Originating Agency Identifier) or other verification that the company is in compliance with Tennessee’s background check laws.

Staff Recommendation:

Due to the information provided above, I cannot recommend the low bid submitted. I recommend approval of the bid submitted by Kidz Zone Play Systems in the amount of $21,391.53 for the purchase of Pre-K playground equipment for South Fulton Elementary School’s Pre-K program.
